Bishop Mark J. Webb Resident Bishop Upper NY Area

At the 2012 Northeastern Jurisdictional Conference, Bishop Mark J. Webb was assigned to serve as the Episcopal leader of the Upper New York Area effective September 1, 2012.

The Rev. Mark J. Webb was elected bishop on July 19, 2012, at the Northeastern Jurisdictional Conference held in Charleston, West Virginia.

Bishop Webb holds a M. Div. from Asbury Theological Seminary and a bachelor’s from Shippensburg University. In 2007, he became District Superintendent of the York District of the Susquehanna Conference. Bishop Webb served pastorates at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, Mechanicsburg, Pa. from 1994-2007, St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Wormleysburg, Pa. from 1991-1994, and Linglestown United Methodist Church from 1989 - 1991.

He served on various district and conference committees, including Order of Elder chair, Vice-Chair of the Board of Ordained Ministry, Congregational Development Team, Committee on Equitable Compensation, Bishop’s Visioning Task Force; Holy Grounds Campaign Steering Committee; Conference Sessions Committee; Congregational Vitalization Team; New Cumberland District Committee on Superintendency; Camp Dean for 14 years; Harrisburg District Youth Coordinator; Conference Council on Youth Ministries and the Leadership Visioning Team. He received the Harry Denman Award in 2002.

Bishop Webb was a delegate to General and Jurisdictional Conference in 2004, 2008 and 2012. He previously served as a director of The Board of Discipleship and a member of the Northeastern Jurisdictional Committee on Episcopacy. In 2008, Bishop Webb was appointed to the Hymnal Revision Committee of The United Methodist Church.

As a consultant in the areas of Congregational Development, Leadership Development, Stewardship, and small groups, Bishop Webb encourages working together to develop strategies and outcomes that will bear fruit. He has a passion for ensuring congregations stay vital and fulfill the mission of making disciples of Jesus Christ. As a District Superintendent, he aligned resources and initiated strategies for greater effectiveness in the areas of leadership development, church revitalization and new church starts.

Bishop Webb is a native of Williamsport, Pa., and is married to Jodi Webb. They have two sons, Tyler, attending Grove City College and Benjamin, a sophomore in Baldwinsville.
